We Toured the NEW Bravo Supermarket in Punta Cana – Better Than Jumbo? We Walked Every Aisle!

If you’ve spent any time living in or visiting the Punta Cana and Bavaro area, you know the grocery situation has been… limited. For years, your choices have essentially been Jumbo (think Dominican Walmart) or Sirena Market. Both have their merits, but neither has been perfect. That’s why when we heard a new grocery store had opened, we grabbed our cart and headed straight over to check it out.

First Impressions: Space to Breathe

Walking into Bravo Supermarket, the first thing that hit us was the space. If you’ve ever tried to navigate Jumbo’s cramped aisles while dodging carts and fellow shoppers who’ve decided to have a full conversation blocking the entire aisle (you know the ones), you’ll immediately appreciate what Bravo offers. The aisles here are wide, clean, and actually designed for multiple carts to pass each other. Revolutionary concept, right?

The Produce Section Will Blow Your Mind

We started our tour in the produce department, and honestly, we got a little dizzy spinning around trying to take it all in. The selection here is significantly better than what you’ll find at Jumbo. Fresh vegetables, fruits, and everything you could want for cooking at home. If you’ve been frustrated by limited produce options at other stores, Bravo is going to feel like a revelation.

Warehouse-Style Shopping Without the Membership

Here’s what makes Bravo unique in the Punta Cana market: it operates more like a warehouse store. They carry their own store brand in large quantities—think bulk sizes you simply don’t see at other local grocers. The prices are genuinely good, especially on these house brand items. If you’re feeding a family or just like to stock up, this is going to save you some serious pesos.

What You Won’t Find Here

One important distinction: Bravo is purely a grocery store. Unlike Jumbo, which doubles as a department store with hardware, clothing, electronics, and housewares, Bravo sticks to food and basic household essentials like cleaning supplies and light bulbs. If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for groceries AND a new lamp, you’ll still need to hit up Jumbo. But if groceries are your priority, Bravo’s focused approach means a better selection of actual food items.

Pro Tips from Our Visit

Bring a sweater to the meat aisle. We’re not joking. The refrigeration units are open-air, and that entire section is genuinely cold. If you’re planning to browse the meat selection (which is substantial), you’ll want an extra layer.

Diet soda drinkers take note: You won’t find Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi here—only the Zero versions. This is pretty standard across Dominican grocery stores, but worth knowing if you’re particular about your soft drinks.

Don’t panic about the eggs. If you’re new to the Dominican Republic, seeing eggs on the regular shelf instead of refrigerated might alarm you. They’re not pasteurized here, which actually means they have a longer shelf life and don’t require refrigeration. Totally normal and safe.

The Verdict

After walking every aisle (twice—the first time we forgot to film!), we can confidently say Bravo is a welcome addition to the Punta Cana grocery scene. The prices are competitive, the selection is impressive, and shopping there is just a more pleasant experience than fighting through crowded aisles elsewhere.

Will we go back? Absolutely. We already filled our cart with everything from mini cheesecakes to store brand mayonnaise (the taste test results are pending), and we’re already planning our next trip.
